How did earth begin to rotate on its axis? How was the axis formed?

Sounds stupid but im doing a science essay so can u answer asap..... My teacher has the theory of the earth being created by asteroid collision, so if the earth was then a sphere, how did it tilt onto an axis and stay that way? Also, how did it get into orbit? Was it caught on the suns orbit?
