Why do cons enjoy hearing that we need to cut spending even if it will destroy the country?

Don't they realize that f the private sector stops spending that the gov't must pick up the slack, incur a deficit, to avoid another depression? Can't they learn the lessons of the Great Depression when the Hoover gov't did nothing, FDR started deficit spending, the Republicans(surprise) just like today, criticized the correct measures which worked then and now (after they caused the problems, just like today, FDR was forced to stop spending by Repubs, and only WWII and its GOV'T SPENDING got us out of the Depression?
