How to travel from phuket to KL by road, time taken, cost, visa formalities etc. kindly help.?

I'm a senior citizen with tight budget. I wish to travel bangkok-Phuket-KL. I have no idea phuket-KL portion of the journey. where one crosses thailand border to enter malasia soil, what r the immigration formalities, mode of travel (by road) etc.
